The Spectre

by The Blackstar Experience

about

lowversions.com/album/the-spectre

Depression is much like the ocean. The deeper you go, the colder and darker it gets. The pressure builds and the light fades. Darkness surrounds you and you no longer know which way is up. As you swim trying to reach the surface, hoping the light from above breaks through only to swim deeper into the void.

Depression much like the descent is gradual. It builds with time and only begins to weigh on and envelope the person with it to the point that the sensations we once felt are now absent or at the very least dulled. The colors of life are muted and we are compressed and numbed by the stress of our trauma to the point that we fit into the box we have been reduced to fit in and nothing seems to exist outside of it.

With this new environment and perspective we are now enveloped in darkness and the only company we have is the spectre that haunts and maintains that environment so that all we know is this flat, darkened world and recall the time before we were born when there was just absence and the darkness. The void envelopes us and all we see is within it and all we hear is the spectre advocating our return and the void beckoning us. We sit. We listen. Then contemplate: will I return?
